Is your memory really bad?
A new study by the Georgia Institute of Technology found that insufficient sleep and poor sleep quality adversely affect the ability of older adults to recall information about past events.
The study also found racial differences in sleep patterns tied to lower memory performance in both younger and older African American research participants. The main factor they found that correlated with poor sleep quality in black participants was race-related stress. Given the current political climate in America, the same is probably true for other groups.
Stress comes for us from all different avenues and as we find ways to cope and deal with the stress, there are herbs to help our body fight against the negative effects. Ashwagandha is one of those herbs.
Ashwagandha is an herb native to Africa that is one of my favorites that I take regularly. Not only does it enhance brain function and improve memory and concentration, but it also enhances the body’s resilience to stress and is used as a sleep aid in Ayurveda, which is a system of medicine from India.
