I had a special guest on the show today, Adrienne Wilson, President and founder of Feed Our Soul, a nonprofit that teaches young people about wellness through workshops, like gardening, environmental learning, nutritional literacy, culinary skills and restorative justice initiatives.
She talked about her journey to creating her nonprofit and mentioned that Black women have a history of sharing love through food and inspiring people. I hope the meal plans here are serving you and doing just that.
If you or someone you know is dealing with CIA, coronavirus induced anxiety, here are some tips that may help:
- Exercise. It helps alleviate and prevent depression and anxiety. It also improves memory. Exercise outdoors for even more benefit as sunlight is an antidepressant.
- Make sure to get at least 7 hours of sleep each night. Daily exercise helps with this as it tires your muscles so your body demands sleep. Try doing pushups and squats when you’re short on time.
- Stretch daily
- Eat a whole foods vegan diet
Nutritionfacts.org says, “Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that is found mainly in the brain, blood, and gastrointestinal tract. Known as the “happiness hormone,” serotonin helps maintain mood balance, leading to increased levels of happiness and calm and lower levels of anxiety. Serotonin helps with the regulation of sleep, mood, appetite, and other functions. Low levels of serotonin may contribute to insomnia, depression, and anxiety.”
Dr Barnard says starch triggers serotonin. Starchy foods include bread, pasta, rice, couscous, potatoes, breakfast cereals, oats and other grains like rye and barley. However, pineapples and nuts are also rich in serotonin.
If you want a special meal plan with recipes that will help you mitigate anxiety and get more rest, sign up here for a consultation. For the month of April all profits for my coaching services are going to support one year of Feed Our Soul gardening and culinary programming at a school.
