I was watching this video on Youtube. I thought it was fascinating to see a comparison of the different gym prices and how people perceive the value especially having recently gone through this process myself with Equinox.
But I was shocked to see in the comments people debating armpit hair. The woman who was trying the different gyms was laying on a bench lifting weights and a shadow cast made it seem like there may be hair. If you’re curious it is 11:44 into the video. The thing is she doesn’t have hair there and even if she did, why are people so into shaming women with armpit hair when it is a natural healthy thing? It seems weird to me and it is irritating.
People only think women should be hairless everywhere because of the porn industry. Dr Christiane Northrup in her book Goddeses Never Age talked about how the Brazilian wax became popular because of porn. The porn industry wanted women bare down there so they could get clear close up shots of penetration. It has nothing to do with hygiene. Hair is in place for a reason. At least this is the current reason why I feel people have this mindset. Apparently even ancient Egyptians waxed. There were some issues back in the 1400s with women getting lice in their pubes. But hygiene practices on a whole have gotten better so it is not necessary. Back then and now sexualizing a hairless body is about the sexualization of the young. Both men and women get body hair when they hit puberty so why would any grown person sexualize a grown person without hair?
Hair both under our arms and on our vaginas is healthy and necessary.
The benefit of armpit hair
- It reduces chafing.
- It can move bacteria away from the skin.
- It serves as a protective barrier on your vestigial blood vessels in your underarm area.
- It serves as hotbeds for pheromones — to attract potential mates.
- Reduced chance of skin infections.
- More regulated body temperature.
The benefit of hair on the vagina
- Helps prevent chafing from friction during sex that can cause skin abrasion and injury that puts pressure on the vagina.
- It acts as a natural barrier to yeast infections, viruses, and bacteria.
- Lowers risk of sexually transmitted infections.
- Regulates body temperature.
- It secretes pheromones.
- It prevents dirt and floating germs from entering the vagina.
