Hey there, health-conscious friends! Samantha Salmon here, your Certified Integrative Nutrition Coach and Brain Health Licensed Trainer. I’ve got something exciting to share with you today that could truly make a positive impact on our society’s health. God spoke to me overnight and I had to get these thoughts out and into the world. This is the future of my work.
Have you ever heard of “functional zero”? It’s an incredible milestone that communities are working to reach when it comes to tackling homelessness. Functional zero means that a community’s homeless services system is so effective that they can prevent homelessness whenever possible, and if it does occur, it’s rare, brief, and only happens once.
Now, let’s think about this concept in a different context – eradicating type 2 diabetes. Imagine if we could achieve a functional zero for type 2 diabetes in our country. What does that mean? It means that we could significantly reduce the number of people affected by this condition and ensure that those who do experience it have the necessary support to overcome it quickly and effectively.
Just like with homelessness, functional zero for type 2 diabetes would be a huge milestone to strive for. We want to create a society where type 2 diabetes is rare, brief, and doesn’t become a recurring issue for individuals and communities. It’s about taking action, implementing effective strategies, and making sure that the right support is available to those who need it.
As a health-conscious and passionate individual, I know you understand the importance of preventing and overcoming health challenges. That’s why I’m reaching out to you today – to inspire you to join me on this journey toward functional zero for type 2 diabetes.
Together, we can make a real difference in our society’s health. By spreading awareness, advocating for better healthcare, promoting healthy lifestyles, and supporting research and innovation, we can work towards a day when type 2 diabetes becomes a rare and fleeting occurrence.
Picture this: a healthcare system where doctors empower their patients to take control of their own health by harnessing the power of diet and lifestyle. Sounds amazing, right? Well, that’s exactly what plant-based doctors like Dr. Tumi Johnson, Dr. Brooke Golden, and Dr. Baxter Montgomery are doing.
These incredible doctors are at the forefront of a movement that focuses on using raw foods to help patients reverse their illnesses. They understand that the key to true healing lies in what we put on our plates and how we live our lives.
Imagine having the option to say goodbye to conditions like type 2 diabetes, obesity, kidney failure, lupus, and pregnancy-related issues by making simple but powerful changes to your diet and lifestyle. It’s truly remarkable what can be achieved when we tap into the healing potential of our body with what God has already provided for us.
Dr. Tumi Johnson, Dr. Brooke Golden, and Dr. Baxter Montgomery are living proof that food can be our medicine. They’re passionate about showing their patients that they have the power to take charge of their health and reverse their illnesses by adopting a raw vegan, plant-based approach.
Just think about the impact this could have on our society. We could shift the focus from managing symptoms with medication to addressing the root causes of illness through nourishing our bodies with whole, natural foods. It’s a game-changer!
You see, I firmly believe that we can make a real impact by scaling up the operations of plant-based doctors who are championing the use of raw foods to heal and nourish our bodies. These doctors are the true pioneers when it comes to understanding the profound connection between what we eat and how we feel, utilizing raw foods and then publishing studies on it to gain buy-in from other medical professionals. They understand how the game is played and they are doing it and this is what is needed for the movement. This is what’s necessary to scale up the high raw vegan lifestyle so it penetrates communities like the one I grew up in and the one I live in now.
Think about it – for many people, doctors are the first point of contact when it comes to their health. Doctors are held in high esteem and many people feel they cannot question their doctors. These are the same folks who are so busy trying to make money to support their families they have not taken the time out to really study nutrition or the effects of lifestyle. It just hits them where one day they are in pain or not feeling well and it is stopping them from working or making the money moves they are looking to make.
By encouraging more doctors to embrace the power of plant-based nutrition and incorporate raw foods into their treatment plans, we can bring about a monumental shift in our healthcare system. It’s about empowering patients to take charge of their well-being and providing them with the tools and knowledge they need to make informed choices about their diet and lifestyle.
Imagine a world where doctors not only prescribe medications when absolutely necessary but also prescribe nourishing, raw foods as a means to prevent and reverse illnesses. It’s an approach that goes beyond just managing symptoms – it addresses the root causes and sets the stage for true healing.
This makes me feel better about the programs that some CDFIs are working on to make healthcare more accessible to underserved communities. For example, during the pandemic there was an initiative that community leaders felt made a real difference in our communities and helped navigate the path to recovery. It was the Vaccine Access Fund.
LISC, Uber, Paypal Giving Fund, and Walgreens joined forces to create a $12 million initiative focused on tackling health inequities. This collaboration focused on providing transportation to vaccination sites and other places where people could learn about the vaccine from healthcare professionals, doctors, nurses, public health organizations, well known news outlets, and government health agencies.
Could you imagine if when people were sent to these professionals and agencies, they were told about how to build the immune system and mitigate the risk factors from dying of COVID? This would have been all the nutrition and lifestyle factors that played a huge role in the outcomes for our communities during this time. Of course, in a crisis situation, we are dealing with an emergency so prevention is not front and center but if this initiative and partnership can continue and be reimagined with a focus on actually creating a culture of health where folks can gain health through what they have available at the grocery store and within their communities where they work, live and play, it can make a huge difference in our communities saving a ton of lives that are taken each year mostly from preventable chronic diseases.
The pandemic highlighted the importance of proactive health measures. We should channel that same urgency towards embracing a high-raw vegan diet and healthy lifestyle. By focusing on whole, plant-based foods in their natural state, we can provide our bodies with essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants for optimal health. With a collective effort to prioritize good nutrition and fitness, we can take steps to prevent chronic diseases, promote brain health, and achieve overall wellbeing.
Education and awareness play crucial roles. By sharing accurate, reliable information about the benefits of a high raw vegan diet, movement and stress mitigation, we can empower individuals to make informed choices and take charge of their own health.
We can also work together to address the systemic barriers and inequities that may hinder access to healthy food options. By supporting local initiatives, advocating for better access to fresh, organic fruits and vegetables, and promoting community programs that educate and empower individuals, we can create an environment that fosters healthier choices for all.
With $12 million, we could make a significant impact in scaling up Dr. Baxter Montgomery’s medical center model, which includes a raw food restaurant and gym on-site, and promotes a raw vegan diet as a means to improve patients’ health nationwide.
Here are some key initiatives we could undertake (note I did not run this by Dr Montgomery):
Establishing Replication Centers: We could identify strategic locations across the country and establish replication centers based on Dr. Baxter Montgomery’s medical center model. These centers would serve as hubs for comprehensive healthcare, incorporating the principles of a raw vegan diet, exercise, and other holistic approaches to wellness.
Expanding Medical Staff and Training: With increased funding, we could recruit and train additional medical staff, including doctors, nurses, nutritionists, and fitness professionals, who are knowledgeable and passionate about the benefits of a raw vegan diet. This would ensure that patients receive comprehensive care tailored to their individual needs. This is the work of Plantrician Project and the Physician’s Committee for Responsible Medicine.
Research and Development: Investing in research and development would allow us to gather more and bigger empirical evidence on the effectiveness of the raw vegan diet in treating and preventing various health conditions. This data would further validate the approach and help dispel any skepticism or misconceptions surrounding this dietary choice.
Community Outreach and Education: A significant portion of the funds could be allocated to community outreach and education programs. We could organize workshops, seminars, and webinars to educate individuals about the benefits of a raw vegan diet and provide practical guidance on implementing it in their daily lives. These initiatives would empower people to make informed choices for their health.
Culinary Training and Support: To ensure the availability of delicious and nutritious raw food options, we could offer culinary training programs for chefs and kitchen staff. By equipping them with the skills and knowledge to prepare flavorful raw vegan meals, we can make this dietary choice more accessible and appealing to a wider audience.
Digital Platforms and Resources: Developing user-friendly digital platforms and resources, such as mobile apps and websites, would facilitate access to information, recipes, meal plans, and other support materials related to the raw vegan lifestyle. These resources could reach individuals nationwide and provide ongoing guidance and inspiration. Dr Baxter Montgomery already has an online community and the same with Dr Brooke Goldner. Dr Tumi Johnson also works with folks remotely and has online resources for patients and potential patients. Some of the broadband initiatives that are already happening within communities will support these resources being even more accessible.
Collaboration with Healthcare Providers: We could collaborate with existing healthcare providers, hospitals, and clinics to integrate raw vegan principles into their practices. By sharing the expertise of Dr Baxter Montgomery and what he has done with his medical center, this money could provide training opportunities to expand the reach of his approach and promote its adoption within the broader healthcare community.
Advocacy and Policy Influence: Allocating resources for advocacy efforts would enable us to raise awareness about the benefits of a raw vegan diet at a systemic level. We could engage with policymakers (we already have allies in the Senate), healthcare organizations, and insurance companies to advocate for greater recognition and support for this approach in healthcare policies and reimbursements.
By strategically investing $12 million in these initiatives, we would be able to scale Dr. Baxter Montgomery’s medical center model and promote a raw vegan diet as a viable option for improving health nationwide. Together, we can create a healthier society, one that embraces the power of nutrition and holistic approaches to well-being.
Ultimately, it’s about fostering a sense of urgency and collective action toward prioritizing health and well-being through nutrition and lifestyle. We don’t have to wait for a crisis to come upon us and take so many of our loved ones.
Let’s come together, spread the word, and inspire others to join us on this journey toward vibrant health. This also means engaging healthcare professionals, doctors, nurses, public health organizations, well-known news outlets, and government health agencies. We need to draw them into the conversation and target them with this education because they are holding major influence in underserved communities in the way the system is working right now.
We can make a giant difference in the country with small steps towards getting specifically these folks to embrace high raw veganism and healthier lifestyles. By engaging and educating the healthcare professionals, doctors, nurses, public health organizations, well-known news outlets, and government health agencies, we will have a chain reaction that encourages individuals to switch to raw foods and prioritize healthy habits.
Honestly, this is what informed consent looks like. We need to meet people where they are and give them all the options on the table and that includes clean nutrition and lifestyle. It is patronizing to assume people will not do it. Some are waiting for the right person with the right credentials and the right level of influence to tell them to take care of themselves.
Let’s join forces to build a healthier society – one person at a time.
I invite you to be part of this movement towards a healthier future. Let’s support and amplify the work of plant-based doctors who are trailblazing the path to better health.
Together, we can revolutionize the way we approach healthcare and inspire a new generation to prioritize nourishment, vitality, and well-being.
Are you ready to take action? Let’s spread the word, share this article with other co-conspirators. Keep the conversation going. In the words of John Lewis, let’s make “good trouble”.
