We are all different. We think and behave differently. Our gut bacteria is distinct and our gut bacteria affects our brain and mood so it makes sense that our brains would be distinct as well. This is my understanding of neurodiversity. According to Wikipedia, “neurodiversity refers to variation in the human brain regarding sociability, learning, attention, mood and other mental functions in a non-pathological sense. It was coined in 1998 by sociologist Judy Singer, who helped popularize the concept along with journalist Harvey Blume.”
Today, I am talking with Anuradha Kowtha, a catalyst, educator, and consultant, who works with individuals, small businesses and organizations. Anuradha’s journey working across both public and private sectors has led Anuradha to see systemic issues like hierarchy and exploitation and find ways to address systemic issues at their root cause. The thread that runs through Anuradha’s work is illuminating and liberating individuals and small teams from the indoctrination and cookie-cutter thinking that comes from capitalism and colonialism, so they can provide bold and innovative solutions rooted in justice to their clients and communities.
A survey by Indeed found that 52% of American employees are experiencing burnout. I feel like that number could be mitigated by making the workplace more inclusive and accessible, which will in turn make the workplace healthier for all. The workplace now has human beings competing with machines and obviously humans will lose this fight. Check out Andrew Yang’s book below. He makes a compelling argument for Universal Basic Income which I feel will also help to level the playing field a bit to give folks access to healthier foods so they are not dependent on pharma drugs and surgeries which are very costly. Anuradha on this episode also lays out some ways to make the workplace more equitable and inclusive.
