I just got back from Florida for my paternal grandmother’s funeral. During relaxation time at my grandma’s house, my cousin asked me if I use veggie wash on my produce. Typically, I get my produce from Imperfect Produce which is coming straight from the farm so I don’t deal with having to do more than rinse my produce with water. But we just got back from Florida so I had to pick up fruits from Whole Foods Market and I got some delicious nectarines which are one of my favorite fruits. I picked up one to enjoy for breakfast and the skin felt so waxy. It reminded me of my cousin’s question.
I am not against veggie wash per say but I’m more of a minimalist. I don’t like the idea of buying more things than I need to and buying more plastic containers that the USA is still trying to figure out how to recycle and avoid contributing to the growing plastic problem. So, I just peeled the waxy skin off. Yes, I forgo great nutrients in and under the skin but I do the best I can. This modern society is not perfect. You just have to make the best decisions for you with the tools and resources you have.
