Drinking enough water daily is very important in making sure your body is fully hydrated. Not drinking enough water will show up in a variety of health ailments but did you know it is possible to drink too much water? The rule of thumb is to drink half your body weight in ounces. Most people struggle to meet this number. However, there are a few people that drink way more than this. Drinking too much water can wash away minerals and nutrients from your body. The medical term for it is hyponatremia, or water intoxication.
If you did the math and discovered you are drinking too much water. Try and cut back your water intake to be no more than half your body weight in ounces. If you find yourself thirsty all the time, which forces you to drink excessive amounts of water, below are some things you may want to look into that may be causing so much thirst.
Lots of Diuretic Foods in the Diet
All things in moderation sounds like a cliche but it is a good rule to live by. Diuretic foods are great if you are looking to lose water weight, lower blood pressure, reduce swelling, flush out kidney stones, and regulate digestion. However, since they make you urinate a lot, water is being lost, which may create excessive thirst.
Low Blood Pressure
Having low blood pressure will make you really thirsty. Usually, high levels of stress is the cause so in order to mitigate this find what is triggering stress for you and try to alleviate it or if possible eliminate it. Deep breathing exercises help me when I’m feeling stressed. Take a deep breath in for a count of 4, hold it for a count of 4, and then release for a count of 4. Repeat that 4 times. After that, I center myself on the issue at hand and not consume the stress of it but look at it objectively as just another thing I need to get through. For me, I had to learn that it is never the end of the world. I am in control. And what I cannot control, I cannot allow it to kill me. Stress kills so I can’t let the stress overcome my mind.
Restorative yoga, dancing, and singing are other stress relieving tools I pull out when things get overwhelming. Not being overcome by stress is a journey for some. It was for me until I really learned how to take control of my situation and my life. I now move with the Universe instead of against it.
Anemia
Being anemic, which has been linked to thyroid imbalance, may be causing excessive thirst. If you are anemic, the first place to make changes is the diet. Eliminate proceed foods and grains, eat leafy green vegetables and winter squashes, and juice burdock root for iron. Digestion could be an issue if you are already consuming these foods but still dealing with anemia. It’s possible your body is not absorbing the nutrients. At that point, probiotics needs to be introduced into the diet to heal the gut lining and increase nutrient absorption. There are also herbs that can be consumed once the body is prepared for healing to take place. The herbs will expedite the healing process. Stress is also a factor here. It is quite amazing how much stress can pervade our life and bring on a series of health ailments. If you need help with all of this, book a health consultation with me and we will go over your health profile and see where some adjustments could be made to have your body work in harmony.
Dry Mouth
Dry mouth is a side effect of some pharmaceutical medications. For every pharmaceutical drug available there is an herb equivalent. There are also lifestyle changes that can be made to support healing so the drugs are not necessary. This is a decision each person needs to make for themselves. I always choose the holistic strategy. It’s least invasive and least toxic.
