Traveling while sticking to a high raw vegan diet can be challenging. It’s easy to get hungry on the go and slip into unhealthy eating habits. In this post, I’ll share some of my top tips for staying satisfied with convenient raw vegan snacks while traveling. These strategies come from my own experience as a 3 month digital nomad and high raw vegan currently exploring cities across Poland.
1. Pick up fresh fruit
Fruit is portable, delicious, and packed with nutrients. Apples and grapes are particularly filling. Eat fruit earlier in the day since it digests quickly. Fruit at night may not make your travel companions happy!
2. Smoothies with nut butters
Look for vegan restaurants or make your own smoothies with a travel blender. Add nut butters for protein, fat, and lasting satisfaction. I recently had an amazing smoothie with banana, almond butter, orange, and stinging nettle at a restaurant called Zielony Talerzyk in Lublin, Poland.
3. Kale chips
Crunchy, savory kale chips curb snack attacks. Buy premade kale chips from health food stores or local vegan restaurants if possible.
4. Vegetables and hummus
Carrot sticks, celery, bell peppers, etc. dipped in hummus makes for a nutritious snack on the go. Hummus can often be found at grocery stores.
5. Nuts and seeds
Stores like Żabka and Biedronka in Poland offer small packets of nuts for perfect portion control. Pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds also make great high-protein, crunchy snacks.
6. Fruit-infused water
Stay hydrated and satisfied with fruit-infused sparkling water. The Polish brand Żywiec Zdrój has a ton of different ones in Poland. The lemon mint flavor is my favorite. It’s refreshing and delicious.
7. Bring your own tea bags
Packing your favorite ginger or herbal tea bags ensures you can make tea that settles your stomach and satisfies cravings or hunger pangs no matter where you are. It hardly takes up space in a bag. Hot tea when you feel the pain of hunger is great because sometimes that hunger pain is just gas. It’s best to drink the tea before consuming food to ease any discomfort.
It is possible to find and prepare simple, healthy snacks while traveling. With a bit of planning and creativity, you can stay nourished and satisfied on the road or in flight. What are your go-to snacks as a traveling high raw vegan? Let me know in the comments!
