Dr. Brooke Goldner never intended to go raw vegan even after her lupus diagnosis and the doctor telling her she would never be able to have children, that she would become disabled and would live a very short life.
She had to tell her future husband that not only was she not able to give him children, but that she was living with a deadly disease that could take her at any time. Fortunately, that was not a problem for him since he loved her and was not about to let her go.
Dr. Brooke was diagnosed with lupus at the age of 16. Lupus is an inflammatory disease where the immune system attacks its own tissues. It can affect the joints, skin, kidneys, brain, heart, blood cells, and lungs. The symptoms include fatigue, joint pain, rash, and fever.
Living with an incurable disease, Dr. Brooke dealt with the migraines and pain that came with her condition for 12 years before discovering the healing power of raw foods. She went through chemotherapy, steroids, and different medications to manage the condition.
Dr. Brooke’s future husband happened to be a professional fitness expert who was obsessed with figuring out how nutrition affects metabolism which triggers fat loss and muscle building. He had just discovered that people with high levels of nutrition especially from raw vegetables have optimal metabolic function, which means they build muscle faster and lose fat faster.
With her wedding around the corner and wanting to look good in her wedding dress, Dr Brooke asked her fiance to train her. When she started training with him, she adapted to a raw vegan lifestyle. And within a couple of weeks, she noticed that she had more energy, her migraines were gone, and the pain had disappeared. She also lost weight and went from being a size 11 to a size 3 in just three months.
After a while, she went to have her blood drawn and was shocked when the lab work came back negative for Lupus. No one could explain how that happened and she also didn’t believe that she was fully cured of Lupus until four years later when she had her first son.
That’s when she realized that Lupus was really gone and that nutrition had something to do with it. She started doing some research and discovered how nutrition affects cellular repair and the immune system.
Our lifestyle and diet greatly affect how our body works. Nutrition is the key to keeping the body working optimally.
All the years she lived with lupus, Dr. Brooke learned how to survive and be grateful and happy despite whatever she was dealing with physically. She has an unconquerable spirit. The doctor told her that she would not be able to have children and she wouldn’t live long. But now she is a mom and has been lupus-free for nearly 17 years. She is now a published medical doctor and best-selling author. She’s been on the front cover of magazines and making major impact in this world with her platform goodbyelupus.com.
