Research shows that the fiber in flaxseeds helps boost metabolism by increasing energy, reducing fat, and improving blood sugar balance. They also naturally promote hormone balance. One study found that eating flaxseeds decreased hot flashes in pre and menopausal women by 60%.
The oil also has benefits. Flaxseed oil helps to decrease inflammation, which is why some use it to treat rheumatoid arthritis.
Today on the podcast we’re discussing foods that help alleviate pain and inflammation in the body and here to discuss this with me is Dr. Lillie Rosenthal.
An expert in personalized lifestyle management with a focus on injury prevention, pain management, health optimization and performance, Dr. Lillie Rosenthal is a physician with a private practice located in New York City. She is a specialist in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Dr. Rosenthal sees a variety of patients in her Manhattan practice, including world-renowned musicians, dancers, choreographers, and writers, as well as marathon runners and other athletes, and treats such conditions as back pain, tendonitis and repetitive stress disorders. She is also a consulting physician for the New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Metropolitan Opera, MTV Video Music Awards and several Broadway productions and is, herself, a dancer and a marathon runner.
She is a celebrity in her own right, having been on “The Dr. Oz Show” and a featured author and expert source in a number of publications, including U.S. News & World Report, the New York Times, The Huffington Post and Consumer Reports.
My favorite fact about her is that she is a member of the medical advisory boards of MedShadow (which is how we met) and Plant-Powered Metro New York as well as a Council of Directors member of True Health Initiative.
If all that was not enough, Dr Rosenthal is also the host and co-founder of the podcast “Power to the Patient” which you need to subscribe to and follow right now!
Many powerful comments were made on this episode by Dr Rosenthal but I think the number one most important one was that we can change our cells by what we’re eating. This is powerful which means there is no time like the present to start eating in a way that alleviates pain and inflammation, strengthens the immune system, and makes the body feel more comfortable to live in.
