What I love about documentaries is that you hear the same point from different perspectives and different voices. You can hear a thing 8 times and on the 9th time it hits differently and is what you needed to hear to make a change.
These documentaries are all free on Youtube or on Netflix. Gather the family and enjoy. Learn and grow together.
- Food Choices
Why is it worth the time?
It will set your mind at ease when it comes to concerns about protein. It also explains why a vegan can be overweight.
- Cowspiracy
Why is it worth the time?
If you care about the environment, our waters and sealife, this is the documentary for you. Humans eating animals affects the entire planet.
- What The Health
Why is it worth the time?
This is the documentary that turns meat eaters into vegans, especially men, so it is worth watching just for curiosity sake. That’s why I did.
- Earthlings
Why is it worth the time?
This is what turned me from vegan eater to vegan as a lifestyle. I came into veganism as a health conscious person which is why I chose to stop eating meat, dairy and eggs. But this documentary had me getting rid of my expensive leather jackets and shoes and buying faux leather shoes and belts.
- The Game Changers
Why is it worth the time?
This will help the men in your life fully understand you can look like [insert sexiest most fit man you have ever seen] without animal meat. All the protein you need is in plants.
- Dominion
Why is it worth the time?
I honestly did not have the stomach to watch past the first 15 minutes. But if you wanted to understand what “animal welfare” means in the Good Food Purchasing Policy initiative, this is the case for it even though eating animals is not animal welfare, but whatever.
- Fat, Sick, And Nearly Dead
Why is it worth the time?
Looking for inspiration to get healthy fast? This is it. It’s basically all in the title. It follows this one guy named Joe (and there are some other folks he meets along the way) on his journey from a destructive eating pattern to a healthy one.
- Forks Over Knives
Why is it worth the time?
Heart disease does not need to exist and this film proves it. Also, Michelle Obama makes an appearance.
- Fed Up
Why is it worth the time?
It exposes the cause of childhood obesity. It also exposes what I’ve been talking about for forever. You can’t exercise, not eat clean and expect to lose weight. Also, it breaks the myth that healthy eating is more expensive. Michelle Obama and Katie Couric are in this one. This film inspires me to advocate more for young people. They want and need support to eat cleaner.
- Simply Raw Reversing Diabetes in 30 Days
Why is it worth the time?
Type 2 diabetes is reversible. You need to setup your environment for success and have the mindset to want to do what’s needed – eating clean.
Speaking of diabetes, some have posed, and I am inclined to agree based on what I have read and seen in the past 12 months, that systemic racism is the root of health disparities in people with diabetes. Poor social conditions that contribute to negative health outcomes, such as poverty, unsafe housing, lack of access to healthy food and safe physical activity, and inadequate employment and educational opportunities, need to be addressed and resolved in order to create a culture of health so all people can thrive.
